Custom fields ((Word 2002 /SR1))

As I remember custom fields in Word 97 you could insert your custom field into the document, using Insert > Field and selecting Custom (or something like that).
Now it seems the only way for a custom field to apear in the document is to link it is a bookmark.
The problem is I want a custom field (e.g. Document Status) that appears in more than one location (i.e. In the header and in the body of a docment).
In order to have the same information in different places I have to create multiple bookmarks, and therefore duplicate custom field, all of which need changing when the information changes.

Can any one help?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a "Custom" field. But you can have multiple copies of a single piece of information in a document by placing a bookmark round the text and then including multiple cross references to that bookmark (Insert > Cross Reference)

Does that help?

Do you mean the DocProperty field?

Sorry I meant "custom file properties", i.e. (File > Properties > Custom tab).
In Word 97 I thought you could use Insert > Field to add your custom file properties to the document.

However, cross referencing the bookmark is a great suggestion, and certainly gets me around the problem.
In fact I might not need to use custom file properties at all.

Thanks,
Paul.

You can insert the value of a custom document property by using Insert > Field > DocProperty. I just tested it by creating a custom document property called "Test property" and inserting it into my document. The field it created looked like this...

{ DOCPROPERTY "Test property" * MERGEFORMAT }

Yes that was what I was after )
Now I am spoilt for choice (Xref bookmark or insert DocProperty)

Many Thanks,
Paul.
