Importing to a specific form (2002)

We have set up a form with extra fields in a public folder which we use for our contact management. However, when importing data into the folder, it does not use it . Does anyone know a way around this?

Did you publish the form to the folder and set the folder to use the form? Was the data imported before or after setting up the form?

Yes. We have now imported the data by writing some code, but as it took some time, would still be interested if you know of a quicker way to do this.

We use a product called OAXfer for imports, especially those that have periodic updates. It's not very expensive, and has lots of flexibility. See http://www.teamscope.com/oaxfer.htm. for more information.

So - Did you do the import before setting up the form?

No we did not import before the form was setup and although we now have the data in and using the form through using our code, we will need to import again and would rather not have to throw everyone out of the folder while running the code if we can do it seamlessly. Will OAXfer do this?

Re: Importing to a specific form (2002)

Well, OAXfer won't make a difference here. I believe there is something about the form, or how it was set up in the folder, that is off. Records created in a folder should use the form for that folder. Records added before a particular form won't. Maybe the form lost the instructions to use your form. In the folder properties general tab, check to see if "When posting to this Folder..." is set for your form.

The form is working fine when creating new records and the folder properties are set as you suggest. It is only when data is imported that it defaults back to the standard form.

You might want to take a look at article Q294375 at support.microsoft.com. It basically says that if you have a custom form then you need to use the items.add method as part of the import script.

    As in: Set MyItem = MyCustFolder.Items.Add(" IPM.Contact.CustFrmName")

    Thanks for your help.

I was hoping that there would be a way that we could set it so that our users could import data using the wizard - it looks like this is not possible!
