Shutdown App on 2nd Machine (Access 2000)

I have an app that runs on a network consisting of two machines - let's call them A and B. There is an "end of day" procedure that the user runs. When this procedure is complete, my VBA code currently executes a quit command which shuts down the app on the machine which executes it (usually machine A). My problem is that after the procedure is complete and the code shuts down the app on A, the user leaves the app open on machine B (even though he has been instructed to close it manually).

My question is: Is there an API or some routine that will allow me to shut down the app that is still running on machine B from machine A? If there is a routine that I can call, I would call it just prior to my current quit command.

    Thanks, in advance.

I have done this in the past by App A setting a condition that App B can test (by a timed event on a form) and can close itself, not before clearing the condition else App B will close itself next time it is started.

    Pat:

Thanks for the reply. I had been thinking of some scheme similar to the one you describe. Perhaps I could create a text file on B when the app opens on A and delete it when it closes on A. A timer event (only executed for computer name = could check for the existence of this file every x seconds and when it does not find it, shut down the app on B.

Is this similar to what you had in mind? Thanks.

Yes that's the kind of thing I had in mind. Maybe a field in a table in one of the DB's could be used to contain a yes/no flag that could be used as a trigger.
