# Thread: Record count divided by time? (Excel 97)

1. ## Record count divided by time? (Excel 97)

Need to find out how to get some kind of time/number. Transaction 1 - transfered 293,042 records in 2:34:04 (hh:mm:ss) how do I find out how many records per min.? or by sec.?

Thank you

Daniel:
supposing that the amount of transferred data is in A1 and the time in B1.

Put the formula in C1 :
=A1/(((HOUR(B1)*60)*60)+MINUTE(B1)*60+SECOND(B1))

C1 must be in General format

=A1/(B1*86400)

where houses a value like 293,042 and B1 a time value like 2:34:04 (hh:mm:ss).

The formula computes records per second.

Format the formula cell as General.

Now that I have the format... btw, thanks to everyone. I need to chart this information. I need to see if I can crate a chart with the following info. on 1 chart.
1. number of recrods (234,432) 2. # per hour(1,234) 3. # per min(432) 4. # per sec. (3) This is just an example and not real data.

How can I show 1 and 3 on the same chart? The number from 1 is so big that the number from 3 will hardly register at the bottom of the line. Is there a way to show a line at the bottom to show option 3 and then at the top to show option1?

An Excel chart can have two value axes (y-axes). Select one of the series, select Format/Selected Series..., Axis tab, and click Secondary Axis.
Now you will have a value axis on either side of the chart. You can let Excel set the scale properties automatically, or set them yourself for each axis separately.
