    Excel (97 SR2)

Excel 97 generates the following erro when a cell is copied and pasted.... Excel caused a stack fault in module Excel.exe at 016f:30001fac

So far any hits have been only tangentially related and none have proved helpful. Excel has been uninstalled, reinstalled. The whole of Office 97 has been uninstalled and reinstalled but have not used the Office "cleaner" for removal.

Any suggestions to avoid a reimage of whole box will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jester

What is your OS? I ask because I had some similar problems with W95 and limited memory, and I think there was something messed up in the OLE which caused Cut and Paste to go wonky.

That usually indicates some corruption in the workbook. One way to solve this problem is to save the workbook into a new file in HTML format, then open the HTML file and save that back in .xls workbook format. This works in XL2K, but I don't remember if XL97 could save in HTML format. If it can, you may lose some formatting in the workbook, so save the original. If xl97 can't save in HTML format, then you will either have to find an XL2K to do this, or copy and paste what you can into a new workbook.

    Hi Jester,

There's no HTML saving option in Excel '97, but you should be able to save your data, formulae and most formatting if you save in Symbolic Link format (*.slk). This may convince Excel to 'drop' anything in your spreadsheet that might be causing your problem.

Um, I have Excel 97 SR2 and I have an option under the file menu to 'Save as HTML...' Is this not the same thing as what's in Excel 2k? I have no idea...

The "Save as HTML" provides a VERY simplistic image of your worksheet- probably values only. It's of no real use for retrieving corrupt worksheets, in the way Legare has mentioned.

The Excel 2000 provides a comprehensive save, which saves most of your formatting, formulas, VBA code etc. (I haven't found if anything gets lost, but there may well be things).

Oh! must have missed it - using O2K right now, so can't check.
