Searching for Styles in a Table (2000)

I have created a table in Word with padded rows and have allocated a style to each row. I do not intend to place any text in the padded row, the style was created to help with understanding the table set up. Now the table is created I am trying to search for the style, but am having difficulty finding the padded row style, as there is no text on the row.

Is it possible to search for a style, that has no text, in a table?

    Many thanks
    Jackie

In the Search and Replace dialog, leave the Search For text box empty (this is important!). Click More, then click the Format dropdown list, and select Style... In the list of styles, select the padded row style, click OK, and then start the search. Word should find cells formatted with the syle, even if they have no text.

Thanks Hans ... Tried that but wasn't able to pick up the style. If I place text in the padded row I can pick up the style, but if there is no text the style cannot be found. Outside of the table styles can be picked up without text but in a table it doesn't seem to be possible.

Before I posted my reply, I did some testing. I can find both paragraph styles and character styles applied to empty cells in a table. But I'm using Word 97 - maybe this has changed in Word 2000. I hope someone else can comment on that.

I have just tested this with Word 2000 SR1a and I have the same problem.

    Hans

Surprisingly, it does work in Word 97but not in 2000 ... they give us nesting tables in 2000 and take away searching for styles in tables !!!

    Hi Jackie:
It is a bug in Word 2000. HOWEVER, if you put a style in both the Find & the Replace box (no text in either), you can click Find Next & Word will find each cell that has the style. This is true whether you put the same style in the Replace box as the Find box or use a different style. No, I can't explain it, but it will work. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
