Keeping Word Open (Word XP on Win 2000 Pro)

Because Word now opens each document individually, I find it extremely frustrating that when you close the document, you close Word. Is there a way to keep it open? I find it particularly tiresome if one opens the wrong document, close it and then have to open Word again. I have a shortcut on the desktop but it's so time wasting.

You need to pay attention to whether there is two close buttons. The second only appears when there are no more Word windows lurking in the background. When this happens, click the lower close button rather than the higher one.

Alternatively, use Ctrl-W or Ctrl-F4 to close instead of Alt-F4 or Exit.

Double alternatively, upgrade to Word 2002 to get the choice of MDI or SDI.

Hi Tibbs:
I don't have Word 2002. Are you saying that there is only one X in the upper right corner, rather than 2, when there is one document open. Also, have you tried using Ctrl+F4 to close the active document?

I'm as blind as a bat - or as thick as a plank - take your pick. For some reason I never noticed that extra x - or if I did, I thought it belonged to the help box. Thanks again to you both.
