    Address book order (2002)

My wife's using Outlook 2002. If she opens the address book the names are listed in alphabetical order of first name so Adam Bede, then Beatrix Potter, then Charles Darwin, and so on. The Help says to change how all contacts are filed you can change the default 'File As' order to what you want, so we have set this as Last First. If you open a particular contact, you see the File As showing as something like Darwin, Charles. If you open the contacts folder, the contacts are in last name order as desired, but not when you open the address book. Also, some of the contacts show a Display Name like 'Charles Darwin (Charles Darwin)' even though when you open that contact it shows that the display name will be 'Charles Darwin (c.darwin@evolution.com)' or whatever. So what can be done to get them in the right order and displaying in the right way?

    Ian,

In Outlook 2000, you open the Address Book; click View and select Sort By > Last Name. Don't know if it's the same in 2002.
I hope that answers part of your question.

I too am used to 2000 myself. Apparently it's not the same in 2002. In 2002 the only item on the View menu in the Address Book seems to be Toolbars.

    Ian,

    I found this on http://www.slipstick.com
    Maybe it will work.

    1. Choose Tools | E-mail Accounts.
    2. Select View or change existing directories or address books, and then click Next.
    3. Select Outlook Address Book, and then click Change.
    4. Under Show names by, choose First, Last or File As.

Ah yes. That works. Thanks, Cameron. And what about the way it displays 'Display name'? We now get something like Darwin Charles (Darwin, Charles) instead of Darwin, Charles (c.darwin@evolution.com) although some others display as, for instance, Potter, Beatrix (b.potter@peterrabbit.net). In both cases when you open the entry it claims that the format will be name (email address).

    Ian,

If the Display is the same as OL 2000, I think what you need to do is go to the Tools menu.
    Click Options>Preferences tab
    Click the Contact Options button.
In Outlook 2000, you have the choice of Display order and a File As order.
Try changing the Display order to First Name Last name (or something like that)

    Of course, 2002 could be completely different. <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>
