    subscription (any)

I'm having a subscription on Microsoft Office Solutions magazine from Informant publishers.
They sold the magazine in july and I haven't received an issue since.
Anybody else with the same problem?

Yes. The last issue I got was August. They owe me thru March...
I was not aware of what was happening. Typical...

Hey, I live just a few miles from the town they're published in and I knew nothing about it either. The zines just stopped coming. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

Re: 'Smart Solutions' - MOS Reincarnated? (Any)

Is that town Elk Grove, CA?? Out of the blue, I recently rcvd in mail a "free" issue of something called Smart Solutions, published by Informant, apparently the successor to Microsoft Office Solutions - the new mag's masthead reads "Business Productivity with Microsoft Technology" - this is apparently the first issue ("2003, 1.1" - their notation, not mine) of the reincarnated mag. The content seems similar to that of MOS - lots of "Enterprise" type stuff. The outer wrapper generously offers me a 6 issue subscription at a discount - I guess the "discount" offered is compensation for the remaining issues of my subscription to mag's predecessor which were never rcvd.... the question is, will new mag last all 6 issues?? ....things that make you say, "Hmmmmm......" <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15>

Yes, it's published in Elk Grove, which is just a few miles south of Sacramento. They sent out copies of their ASP.Net mag out as a "replacement" for the old mag while they were reworking the format. The problem is that it was hard to distinguish from all the free software mags that come in the mail anyhow. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

I actually found the ASP.Net mag to be pretty interesting, and subscribed for a year ($19.99 for 14 months, online - not the $34.99 offer they put on cards in the mag.)

The ASP.Net mag reminds me of what the old MS Office & VB Developer used to be like - full of interesting and usable projects and code - before it turned into an extension of MS's 'enterprise solutions' marketing arm.

In contrast, the new issue of Smart Solutions headed right to my wastebin after a quick once over - most of the articles seemed really superficial without much technical 'meat' - can't imagine there is enough of an audience for that content, to keep that magazine going.

    My 2 cents.....

I think you're right - just the term "Solutions" in mag's title is a giveaway - maybe they should've just called it "Enterprise Solutions" or something. As someone who's a lowly worker bee, and not a big-shot "Enterprise" IT manager, I find the publications published by Advisor Media (such as Access-VB-SQL Advisor) to be of far more value in terms of time and money spent on them....

Actually, some of the same people write for both pubs, and Informant has been a good publisher in the past, but the various versions of this mag have always seemed like marketing pitches to me. The original version did have some excellent articles, but I think the current incarnation is eminently forgettable. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>
