I use Opera at home; this is my browser of choice.
The set-up at work, which uses NTLM authentication, prevents Opera from working. Since Avant uses IE connection settings, it works fine. I do not think it is as accomplised as Opera, but its support for MDI, suppression of po-up windows, and groups make it significantly more friendly than IE.
My only concern is that it defaulted to allowing ActiveX controls, when I have IE set to disable ActiveX.

Re: Avant Browser (Avant ver: 6.5.1.3)

I installed it a few days ago and have been using it without any major drawbacks. I find that links are really easy to handle, especially when opening pages from email messages - each one automatically opens up in its own window instead of hijacking a previously-opened window. Avant is not supported by my download manager, FreshDownload, but IE is always available should I need it.

My initial worries were how much of a resource hog Avant would be, and what were the spyware implications. On the first, so far it seems to be much easier on resources than IE, noticeably so when larger numbers of windows are opened. As to the second, I did not download the UCMore toolbar plugin (which they admit collects and reports information, ostensibly to enhance browsing, but deny that it is spyware since it is not hidden), and Ad-Aware removed the UCMore folder that was created during Avant's installation; no further concerns have come up. It hasn't given Proxomitron any problems either, and I rely on its filtering for security more than Windows' internet security settings.

I must say that for all of its features, the Help that comes with it is substantially lacking. This can make fine tuning after installation a little more time consuming.

All in all, I'm beginning to like it. Its refreshingly different from IE & Netscape, a very small download by comparison, and the price is right.
