Task Pane SHOWING on startup! (Excel xp - )

(Edited by gwhitfield on 27-Oct-02 06:48. Hyperlinks added)
I don't know if you guys have already sussed this trick - nor if it's of any real interest but I tripped over it and thought it might be of interest

Existing Issue - task window doesn't show on startup when personal.xls in startup folder - BUT
If excel is closed using a process viewer like PV2k (select process, rt click and kill it) when you next open Excel the task pane stays open!
This doesn't work if you do the 3 finger salute and "end task" (Nor does it work with "Word")
(Win98)

I don't know if this happens with any other "killer" utilities - and I haven't a clue if it's of any interest or of any use but just thought I'd mention it in case

Another way around this is to edit the registry (make a back up of the registry first!!!)
Start regedit
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice10.0Common General
Create a new DWORD (Edit>New>DWORD) and name it DoNotDismissFileNewTaskPane
Modify this key (Edit>Modify) and set the value to 1

This also solves the same issue with Word's task pane

Thanks for that Tony, and for the bonus of sorting Word!
I'll certainly try it
