    'Recall this message' options (2000)

Are there any options available to configure the way that message recall works? I'm also wondering if this feature gets improved in future versions of Outlook (XP/2002 or beyond).

On our local network, our Exchange server users can recall messages but the average recall request seems to take over 5 minutes to execute. Very few people go that long without reading messages, and the consensus is that the recall feature is virtually worthless. Is there any way to improve this? We migrated to Exchange from GroupWise, where this feature worked very well. Anything I can do to stop the grumbling?

the concensus is right - it's useless. it has a low success rate and on works on exchange server. it's not a function of outlook alone, but also the exchange server. which server version do you have? I don't think it matters much though... it's as bad on 5.5 as it is on 2000. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I concur with MaryJane -- I have taught large numbers of classes where I demo "recall" only to illustrate that it doesn't work. It worked instantly and always in GroupWise -- without notifying the recipient! Let's not talk about how much more difficult assigning Delegates is going to be for you...

The worst thing it does - and it's even worse than not working - is that it sends a message to the party from whom you tried to recall that you tried to recall the message. That tends to draw even more attention to the message as it's being read, as now it's being analyzed in terms of what's wrong with it and why didn't she want me to see it!

We have a pilot group of users on Windows XP O/S and Office XP (including Outlook). Sorry to say there is no new functionality and in fact, it doesn't work for us on new messages (it did work on recalling Replies). We are running Exchange 5.5, SP4. When I send the original message, it appears in the persons Inbox. When I Recall it, the Recall appears as a new message but the original one is still there. When I double click it, I can open it. It then deletes the Recall message from my Inbox. We believe it's the version of Exchange we are running because it used to work, at least some of the time, in previous versions.
