    Mail Merge Attachment (Word 97)

I am e-mailing a Word 97 Mail Merge, and would like to include several Acrobat attachments as separate documents - we use Novell GroupWise as our e-mail appliction. I don't want to copy the attachment documents into the main document... I would like them to appear as individual attachments on the email. I tried embedding the extra files as objects in the main Word document, but could not open the Acrobat files when I did that (even though I have Acrobat on my computer). Please help if you have any suggestions.

I'm a little confused with what you want to do, but here goes. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> When you create your e-mail message, why don't you just attach the PDF documents directly. (Insert > file or something similar). You can't open PDF files in Word, just not compatible and neither are designed to do that.

The email that you can do from Word doesn't give you the ability to attach files (other than sending the Word document as an attachment), so I think you are going to need to explore OLE Automation in order to build emails with attached documents. Unfortunately, I don't have any knowledge about GroupWise and what capabilities it has to offer - it may not support Automation in any way, shape or form.

While PDF files embedded in a Word document normally can be opened when the Word document is sent as an attachment, I suspect that in the process of converting the document to a message body, the embedded objects are getting trashed.

There are examples aplenty on the Outlook board for Word-to-Outlook automation, but GroupWise is probably quite different. If you have the flexibility to use third party software, there are many packages designed to produce, ahem, "bulk mail" that might fit your needs.
