    IDE Find (Word 97SR2)

Wouldn't if be nice if the IDE Find set the focus -- and maybe even set the selection -- to the found text?

    Kevin,

If you mean a search through code modules etc of a Project, I think it does do what you suggest. Or have I misunderstood ?

It does select the text, that's right. But it does not set the focus to the code pane. I'd like to see the IP sitting there flashing on the found text.

That's interesting, Kevin. In Word 2k, it appears to function the way you described it ... except of course for the flashing part. And since you can't do a find on anything except code in the IDE, the focus seems to be in the code window. Or did I misunderstand as well?

In Word 97, the focus stays on the Find dialog. I have to click on the code windows to get to the found text. Maybe there's a setting somewhere. But I don't know about it.

But Kevin, if you don't close the Find dialog, then naturally it's going to retain the focus. Or am I being dense?

    Re: IDE Find (Word 97SR2)

I guess what I want Windows can't do. I do a find, edit the text, do a Find Next, edit the text, etc. (No Find and Replace will not suffice in this case).

It would be great if Find worked like Spell Check -- the found text is editable in the Spell Check dialog.

    Oh, never mind....

    Re: IDE Find (Word 97SR2)

The MZ-Tools add-in has an enhanced Find feature that may do what you want; it displays all matches found within specified scope in a tree-like list; when you select one of the listed items, the Find text is selected in code window and you can edit directly w/o having to switch focus manually from Find dialog to code window (see attd illustration). MZ-Tools is available FREE from the MZ-Tools web site. There are versions of the add-in for VB 5, VB 6, and VBA 6 (Office 2K or XP). Unfortunately, there is no version available for Office 97 because, according to the FAQ, "Office 97 does not support COM-Addins." So you could not use it with Word 97. But you may want to check it out anyway if you also use VB 5.0 or later; the program has lots of other cool features that enhance the VBIDE.

I don't know of any way to modify the VB Editor's built-in Find functionality.

    Thanks Mark,
When we're finally out of Word 97-ville, I'll give these MZ tools a shot.
