The Amazing World of msadoXX.dll (Any)

    My observation:

The latest version of the ADO library is always "installed" to the file: msado15.dll, even though msado20,2125.dll, etc.
may be installed on your PC.

To confirm this, look at the file properties for crogram filescommon filessystemadomsado15.dll

Mine says the version (click the Version tab) is 2.70.9001.0
On my test PC -- (with Office XP and Office 11) the version is 2.60.6526.0
On a user PC that I just updated to Win2k SP3 and IE 6 SP1 and all the updates, the version is 2.62.7400.0

Though I would like to know how Windows knows to make the newest version available the
one with the name "msado15.dll", what I really need to know is how to get ALL the PCs here
up to date with the *same* version of ADO!

My document automation app will not run otherwise. Thanks. Much.

I think what you are seeing here is the MDAC at work (or play!) just based on version numbers. There's a utility that will check the version of everything and suggest updates where appropriate. I'll find the link to it and update this post.

Re: The Amazing World of msadoXX.dll (Any)

    Hi Kevin,

I too have built a document automation app that uses ADO (ADO versions downloadable at http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm).

Distributed accross some 150 systems, using Win 98/NT/2000, office 97/2000 variations. No complaints yet <g>.

    I have a reference to :
Microsoft ActiveX Data Object 2.1 Library
and as the location it says
    crogram filescommoon filessystemadomsado21

    Any help <g>?

Re: The Amazing World of msadoXX.dll (Any)

My (development) reference is set to Microsoft ActiveX Data Object 2.7 Library. But if you look at the
file name it's msado15.dll. If fact, no matter which ADO library I pick, the file is always msado15.dll.
Nevertheless, when the users run the app, the reference to 2.7 shows up missing -- along with the "Compile
    Error in Hidden module" error.

The solution I've come up with for now is to rollback -- pick the Microsoft ActiveX Data Object 2.6 Library which
all users appear to have due to IE 6 SP1 (I think that's where it comes from). The puzzling thing is
    how did I get 2.7?

Thanks Wendell. I've got a workaround for now. See my post to Jan.

    Maybe from Office 11 ? ?

These libraries probably all share the same GUID, and the most recent becomes the default. I think.

No. Office 11 is on the test PC, not my main developement PC which has only Office 97 (and Outlook 2000).

    Gotta be something else.

If you download the latest version of MDAC, you get ADO 2.7
