    Duplicate label - 2-sided - how? (Word 2000)

As a pretty competent Office user, I'm stumped. <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29> I'm trying to create a mail merge (Excel data) to labels. The catch is that each label will be placed on a divider where the label will be attached so half will be on one side of the divider tab and half on the other. On each side needs to be a name, (last name, first name). By nature of viewing, I need the label mail merge to work so that the name prints, vertically and then again, rotated 180 degrees, all on the same label. This is so it is readable, once attached, from both sides of the divider. Then the merge needs to jump to the second label and print the next name, twice, as specified. I've attached a file of what I have attempted thus far...that's not working!!!! (sigh) I love Office!!!

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

This is a thing that some of us have wished we could do. Works, for example, to make name plates for meetings -- same principle, so it has been discussed before. If you do a quick search of the Word forum using "rotated text", you should be able to find the previous discussion. Maybe someone else out there can lead you to the exact one. Not wanting to let you down, but the conclusion is that it probably cannot be done <img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15> - having said that, hopefully someone will prove me wrong. Hi Tammy:
I'm pressed for time right now, so I can't search. I could have sworn that Woody had an article in WOW about 1-2 years ago on how to do this.

I'm not sure what youve tried but it doesn't appear too difficult if you just use a plain ordinary table cell and rotate the text in there. Using those text boxes is going to be a problem.

I have attached a file demonstrating how I would do it and it appears to work for me on Word 2000.

Thread starting with <post#=186905>post 186905</post#> has a discussion on this, and has two potential solutions

OK...how about if the text needs to look like this (in the mail merge):

    T
    A
    M
    M
    Y

The table works great but the text alignment feature just doesn't go this far....any thoughts?

One very low tech way that may work is to simply make a table cell width so small that Word is forced to wrap every character.
    There would be VBA solutions.

Finally you could always do a find / replace to convert any character into that character plus a linefeed.

(Find ^? and replace with ^&^l (that was a lowercase L)
The find string is 'wildcard one charcater", the replace is "what I found" folloed by "linefeed"
