Window position (Windows XP Pro Sp1)

Since running WinXp a number of my non-microsoft applications, when started up, size their window correctly to allow for the task bar at the bottom, but position their window at the bottom instead of the top of the screen. The result is the bottom of the window is hidden by the task bar and there is a gap at the top. It is easily fixed by minimising the window and then maximising it again upon which it assumes the correct position. But it is annoying having to do this each time. Any solution?

If your taskbar is set to be always on top, it sounds as if the applications are not starting maximised, but sized to fit.
Right-click the startup shortcut and select Properties - see if it is set to run as "Normal Window" or "Maximized" under the Shortcut tab.

Nope.... the Taskbar is set to be always on the bottom actually and changing the Property Settings of the shortcuts to the misbehaving applications from Normal Windows to Maximise doesn't make any difference.

Sorry - I wasn't clear. By being 'on top' I meant always on view and in front of any running application, as opposed to being 'at the top' of the screen.

You might also try to click on "Auto hide the taskbar" in taskbar properties. That way it stays off screen until you move the mouse cursor down or up near it and it will reappear. It gives you the entire screen for your work until you need the taskbar.
