    Resetting Administrator Password (XP Home)

A friend of mine has a pc with Windows XP Home installed. His childrens' friends have reset the administrator password but can't remember what they put in. Is there any way of resetting it - maybe from the recovery console?

    Many thanks,

    Gavin

If there was no another account with Administrator rights created, the only way is to reinstall Windows. (if you don't have Windows XP installation CD, use computer's Restore CD instead. All your data will be lost in this case.)

I thought that might be the answer. There is another administrator account, but unfortunately that was setup by a now deceased relative - so it looks like a re-install.

    Thanks,

    Gavin

Seeing this is XP Home, isn't the "master" admin account available in "safe mode". This would give you the ability to reset the password on the account used on a regular bases.
