Track changes: 1 user not tracked (2000/SR1)

Hello, a lounge newcomer here hoping for some expert advice...
I created a document, then the next day I turned on Track Changes and entered a number of changes.
Leaving Track Changes on, I sent the document to a colleague for further editing.
When the document returned, it was different, but the only changes visible were the changes I had made. My colleague had modified the document, but I couldn't see where without printing a hard copy of her doc and mine and eyeballing.
She could have turned off Track Changes to make her edits, then turned it back on, but I doubt she would do this. She knows that tracking changes is important in this doc.
Does anyone know what might have caused this phenomenon? Next time I will protect the doc for Track Changes, but in the meantime I'd like to know what happened.
    Many thanks! Erik

    I cannot explain it either.

However, I deduce that you have not yet met "compare documents"
You can ask Word to compare the new with your original and highlight changes after the event.
    That at least makes the omission fairly painless. <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>

I would do a Compare Documents on copies, rather than the original. Otherwise, you get a message saying Word compared up to the first tracked change. On the copy, you can first accept all changes.
    Cheers,

A rather temperamental function, but I got it to work. Thanks to you both for the valuable advice.

Could you tell us what you found to be the cause & what solved the problem. These posts are archived and it will be a benefit when someone else has a similar problem.
    Cheers,

I wonder if Word tracked the changes but simply failed to display them properly? If you use the Accept/Reject dialog, does it highlight any changes by your colleague?

I did not find the cause. Your suggestion to (1) make copies, (2) accept all changes, and then (3) compare documents proved to be an adequate workaround. Thanks again. Erik
