    ctrl+ semicolon error message (Access97)

I have a database where I use the shortcut key control + semi colon to enter the date. It has been working fine then out of the blue I get the error message "The function you entered can't be used in this expression." Has anybody ran into this error message before? I have attached a screen capture of this error message.

I found the problem. It had to do with references.
