Image Saving (XPP)

All of a sudden, when saving an image on any page, I try to right-click, 'Save Image as..', it comes up as 'untitled' in the file name and '.bmp' is the only file choice. Anyone know why this might be occurring?

Thanks for the links, but unfortunately these previously visited pages either aren't the proper remedy or do not apply.

The TIF cache is empty, "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" is not selected, am not accessing an address that contains <usernameassword>, and the latter does not apply to XP or IE6.

Ah.
If I'd know you had already searched the MSKB I wouldn't have done it myself.

Have you done a search in the Lounge? I recall a similar question being asked - possibly under Outlook . . .

Hi Bruce

Here's a quote from techimo.com:
this sounds like a trick that someone on the forum mentioned awhile ago. First, make a table for the picture but put the picture as the background image, then, in the main cell of the table, put a transparent image, which would end up being overtop of the image. this way you can't right click and get the main image, just the transparent image overtop of it. but again, if you really want the image, it will be in your "tif" files...

....and this quote from annoyances.org:
Go to "Tools, Internet Options, then Delete files, then check Delete All Offline Content, and click OK.

There are many more posts on Annoyances at this link.

Most references I came across in my search pointed to Q260650 which you say you've already eliminated.

Good luck!!!

Have a Great day!!!

Re: Image Saving (XPP)

Hi, Ken!

The images do not appear in my TIF file as they should. This began out of nowhere and does not occur on another machine with XP and IE6 at the same sites, so that rules out the image masking trick. Although I have not made any changes in the settings, I figured I may well have done something unwittingly, but haven't found anything. My gut tells me it is something with IE and/or the OS.

The Annoyance.org site to which you referred presented many other folk with the exact same problem. Some were fixed by the M$KB Q260650, some not, and some experienced a 'miraculous' healing. However, after perusing the many listed posts at this Annoyance.org page, I have discovered that the problem is with management of the index.dat file, which is located in Content.IE5 directory/folder/ and, like my colon, difficult to find & flush. Apparently there is an issue with the capacity of that file.

I do not wish to 'jinx' myself, but this is the measure I have undertaken and thus far it seems to be the fix! Thanx, Ken for leading the Horse! If it fails, I will post back.
