    SMTP to X.400

This may be the wrong forum but, if so, I'm sure someone will tell me.

We are attempting to pass mail messages (with file attachments) received on a UNIX (AIX) box to
our MS Exhange 2000 server. The messages are then accessed via MS Outlook 2000 and amended, then passed
back (with file attachment) to the UNIX box for onward transmission.

    UNIX protocol - X400

    MS Exchange protocol - SMTP

Conversion from one protocol to the other takes place on the UNIX box.

Stage 1 - with a text file attachment have been passed successfully from UNIX to Exchange server

Stage 2 - with text file attachment unsuccessfully passed from Exhange server to UNIX box, in that
the file attachment is opened and displayed (in a corrupt format) as part of the message text.

This convoluted route is necessary, at least in the short term, as the route, via X.400, is our only secure pipeline for confidential data

Can anyone help or advise the correct forum?

    Thanks

    John.

    Re: SMTP to X.400

Why not configure the Exchange X.400 connector and send X.400 from the Exchange system to the Unix one?

    Re: SMTP to X.400

This might help but knowledge of the X.400 protocol is non-existent here. We could set up the X.400 connector on Exchange but no-one can tell us what the X.400 address parameters should be on the Unix box!

Do you really think it would make a difference to do the concersion from X.400 to SMTP on the Exchange box rather than Unix?

I can't help you configure your UNIX box, but I was thinking that you could use X.400 throughout. SMTP is no more a "native" exchange format than X.400 is.
