Sound Problem!?

I just upgraded my modem (56K V90/X2 Data/Fax/Voice)and now there is a problem with my sound. All sounds coming out of my speakers are nothing but scratchy noises. I've checked in the Device Manager for any conflicts in both the Modem and Sound Card Properties/Resources, etc. and everything is listed as fine.

Can anyone suggest where to look and/or what to do next?

Settings|Control Panel|MultiMedia

Audio Tab

Check that "Playback Device" is correct.

Ian,

I checked that too, and everything is fine. And one of those inexplicable things happened over night... the sound now works??? Ya gotta love Windows!! LOL

But now I can ask what I forgot to ask in my first post: This modem installed itself on Port: COM4. But I don't have a COM4 (Device Manager/Ports)listed on my computer. Is this typical? If not, what does this usually indicate?

>>one of those inexplicable things happened over night<<
Did you restart your system?

>>This modem installed itself on Port: COM4<<
COM4 is the slave to COM2. (COM1/COM3/Irq4, COM2/COM4/Irq3).
