Round selection handles in PPT XP (PowerPoint 2002)

I'm a little confused by the new, gray "selection handles" in PPT XP. I was working with a diagram and these little text boxes appeared in each corner of the diagram. I tried placing text in the boxes and found the four text boxes were too close together to read. When I selected one of the boxes, my pointer changed to a four-headed arrow but I couldn't move or expand the boxes. Anyone have a solution? My Operating System is Windows ME

Which type of diagram were you trying to use? I'm running the same configuration you are, and the four corner arrows let me move the diagram around on the slide.

Wendell, I was working an exercise in my textbook. I clicked on the slide layout Title and Content, then chose the circular diagram. I added a fourth circular to the three shown in the original diagram and began filling in text into the four corner text boxes. The text requires 2 lines for each box and is too close together to read. I click on each text box and get the grey resizing handles but I cannot move or resize any of the boxes. I got the same result when I tried to complete this exercise on the college computers.

    Any suggestions? <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

I'm not sure that I'm answering the question that you asked - but the round gray handles indicate that you are selecting a shape within a grouped shape.
This is new in PPT XP.
One click selects the entire grouped shape. At this point you will have white round handles. You can (for example) change the colour or resize ALL the shapes within the grouped object.
A second click on any shape within the object, will give you the round gray handles, you can't move or resize the object separately (that is why you'd have to ungroup) - but you can recolour that shape separately. It is a nice feature, I was forever having to group/ungroup/regroup to change colours.

    Cheers

Catharine, you WERE answering the question I'm trying to ask. I just tried it out and tried to Ungroup. When I insert a diagram, then click on the diagram, it is enclosed in the Drawing Pad. I tried double-clicking, right-clicking, etc. and couldn't find an option to Ungroup. It's funny that I can alter that diagram almost any way I want except by enlarging the text boxes. The diagram I'm working with is the circle diagram.

    I think I've got it!
To change the size of those text boxes within the diagram
