WPSTEMP1

Hi, I have a folder named WPSTEMP1 with a file named wpscsin.gid in my C drive. This is a relatively new installation of WIN 98. What would this folder and file be for? Would it be safe to get rid of them??

Hi trebor

A ".gid" extension indicates a Windows Global Index. It contains the index information used by Help in Windows.

What is the full path for the folder?
Do you have Word Perfect installed?....just a guess.
If deleted, Windows should automatically recreate it when it needs it. You could rename the folder and see if you have any problems for awhile, then delete the folder or rename it back if you want.

Do you have a Canon printer? The term "wpscsin" search on Google refers to a wpscsin.exe, which has to do with a Canon printer.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Tried to install a CANON printer - the printer is shot however. But definitely tried to install it. Do you think there is any danger in just deleting the folder and file?

Based on the fact that it:
1. Refers to a printer that you don't have installed; and
2. has "temp" in the name, which implies a temporary file, it's probably safe. However!!! I would hate to advise you to delete something blindly.

To be on the safe side, why don't you move the whole folder to another folder, say, "Possible Delete". If everything seems OK after awhile, you can delete it then.

Hi Trebor

Tried to install a CANON printer

Given Daves info, some "Install" programs create temporary folders/files as part of the install process. Once the install is finished, they delete the temporary folders/files. It sounds like your attempt to install a printer failed. If so, the install program may not have progressed to the point where the temporary folders/files would have been deleted.
