What is the latest on Win2K SP3

It has been several months since windows 2000 service pack 3 was released. I saw a few issues that people had but no real trends. What is the latest skinny on whether or not it is safe to install this service pack? I am running service pack 1 and managed to miss the release of SP2 so I will just do the SP3 update if it has been working OK for others.

I've had no problems of which I am aware.

I've installed it on 1 server and 8 workstations at work with no problems. No one even noticed.

Other than the issue noted in this thread, which also has a workaround, I've had exceptionally good luck with SP3. Very stable overall. Just beware if you have a scanner or camera that you need to use, and I think you'll find it to be a good experience.

For my old laptop SP3 has made some positive changes and only one small software problem. Most noticeably in the plus column is the shortened time into hibernation and shutting down as well as a general quicker response overall. My time into both of these events (hibernation and shutdown) on a PII-366 w/256MB ram are measureably faster now. My Nokia phone sync software is now very tempermental, even after a reinstall. In comparison, my wife's newer laptop running XP Pro SP1 with a PIII-1.2 w/256MB is now slower than I am in these two operations. I must also say that her new laptop can cold boot in approximately 45 seconds and resume from hibernation in 12 seconds. With that said, I am saving my pennies for a new P4 2.2 w/512MB.

I haven't seen this SP addressed in the WWW newsletter? (Like was promised 'next week', way back in www 5.15)

With all the new SP's out, I would appreciate a "special edition newsletter" that lists all the current SP & patch recommendations, for the various versions of Windows and Office?

    PEACE

It might be worth your time to check out Labmice.net's Service Pack Guides.
