How to: Open wps file (Office Premium 2000)

I have received by Email (outlook 2000) a 570 kb file with extension "wps".
After discovering that I could not open this file in Word 2000 or any other of my regular progs including Notepad I investigated the extension & discovered it's a "Works Text Doc" so presumably constructed in a MS Works Suite.

I would have expected confidently that it would therefore open after saving to HD.
However, no luck, this seems very odd.
What should I do to correct this & how do I check if Word 2000 has all the necesssary components installed?

    TIA
    Pete

I don't think this converter is installed by default.
    To see -
Go to Control Panel - Add and Remove Programs
Select Office and indicate you want to make changes
Select Shared Office files, Select Optional components
The display will show you if the converter is installed as one of the options, and will also be half way there to installing it if you need it.

If you don't have the Works converter, you can download it from Works 6.0 Converter: For Works and Word Users.
