Syntax error on multi-statement lines

    In Word97/SR2/VBE:

Call cmd_TypeName : Selection.TypeText strSoftLine

    generates a syntax error but

Call cmd_TypeName
    Selection.TypeText strSoftLine

    doesn't!

    Why?????

To make the change from (1) to (2) I merely selected the colon-character and tapped the Enter key. No code changes were used in the development of this message.

    Chris,

No problem in Word 2000 SR-1.

I've not come across this before- but I don't like multi-statement lines anyway.

Re: Syntax error on multi-statement lines

OK, thanks. Anyone else out there still using Word97?

I am not a keen fan of MS-lines, as I call them, but occasionally they seem to make sense, as in my example of wanting to type some text and follow it with a return. When I have five lines to be typed, having five MSlines rather than 10 irregular lines looks more attractive, and it pushes the "returns" off to the side. They are not as interesting as the text being typed.

I'm with you, Geoff. Multistatement lines are hard to read and ugly to maintain, and readability and maintainability are irreplaceable in my book.

I blame it all on the colon myself, but then at my age ....
