    Printer Sharing (XP Home)

So now that I have "upgraded" to XP I am no longer able to share the printer attached to my XP machine with the Win98 machines on my home network. Help!

    Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggh! <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>

You need to have an account on the XP machine the same as the one on the 98 machine, and the paswords need to be the sam also. Or have you turned on the "Guest" account on the XP machine?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I am humbled by you guys all the time. What is an "account"?

Amazingly, the network & file sharing are fine. I've got access up my ying yang on 2 notebooks and 2 desktops. Problem is, NONE of the Win98 machines are able to use the HP612c attached to the WinXP machine.

An account is a USER who logs in on the XP machine. If a person on my Win98 machine logs in as AHOFFMAN, there MUST be a user account on the XP machine called AHOFFMAN too, as Dave said.

Here is the answer that worked:

"Try loading the printer driver on your Win98 machine, pretend the printer is connected to lpt1. When its setup right click the printer and select properties, details, and where it says "lpt1" enter the path to your xp share ie XPMachineHP610."

What you are saying is that you failed to tell us that you did NOT install the printer driver on the non hosting machine? ALL device drivers MUST be installed before a computer can find the hardware to be used.

    Re: Printer Sharing (XP Home)

I certainly didn't mean to mislead you. My problem was that the Win98 (non hosting) machine did not have the correct driver in Windows setup and I couldn't figure out how to install the CD version so that it would be seen as a printer (&driver) attached to the WinXP (host) machine.

All is well now, sorry for the confusion. You have always been a big help and I really appreciate that .
