    Efficient dot-matrix fonts?

How do I get Word97SR2 to make use of my dot-matrix printer efficiently?

I have a laser printer I use for "good stuff", and a Citzen 180D Dot matrix printer for rough draft (printing out an email message, a draft of a memo etc.). I'm cheap.

When I print from Word to the dot matrix, Word does its best to deliver the screen font, I know, but this drives the dotMx in bit-pattern mode. I'd like it to SCREAM in one of its native fonts (probably Courier and Elite if I could find the manual).

It seems to me I'm waiting over a minute for a printout when I could have the draft in my hand in under ten seconds, if I could get the system to co-operate.

Have You tried setting Draft Output on. ?

It should be available in File|Print|Options.

It sounds like it should work - I don't have a Dot Matrix to test it on

    regards,

Thanks. I do, and it didn't.

I know that when I dump text from a DOS window, as in:
    COPY MyFile.txt LPT1
    it is fast.

When you select the dot-matrix, are you offered the printer's fonts?
If so, possibly a macro that changes the printer to the DM, reformats all text to a suitable font, then prints?

    No I'm not.

But now that you mention it ..... sometimes selecting "Generic text file" as the printer reduces the SCREEN DISPLAY of the text to simple fonts. I'll give that a try. That would mean assigning the Generic text file printer to LPT1, which harbours my dot-matrix.
