    What could be the formula? (XL/2002 - SP2)

    First, i have to explain a little about this. There are five columns
    A= number,B =number,C=x, D=Average ofA&B * X and E= y
    What i need is a formula for the action below?
    If A = 12, B=3, C=15-3=12 D= (7.5*2=)15 E=15-12=3. Actually we don't in which cell the smaller number comes. Could any one help me?
    Thanks

    I don't understand what you are doing. Isn't D just the sum of A and B? If you want to find the smaller of two numbers, use the MIN function: =MIN(A1,B1) or =MIN(A1:B1). To find the greater of two numbers, use the MAX function.

    Sorry, I don't understand. Perhaps it would help if you replied with an attachement of a worksheet with several examples. Just highlight the column(s) in which you want a formula. Thanks! --Sam

    Here's an attempt to interpret what you are saying, but as Hans and Sammy note, it is hard to follow your example.

    <table border=1><td></td><td align=center>A</td><td align=center>B</td><td align=center>C</td><td align=center>D</td><td align=center valign=bottom>1</td><td align=right valign=bottom>12</td><td align=right valign=bottom>3</td><td align=right valign=bottom>=15-B1</td><td align=right valign=bottom>=AVERAGE(A1:B1)*C1</td></table>
    And, if you are looking for "don't in which cell the smaller number comes" , use the MAX() function.
