Expressions in queries (2000 on NT4.0)

I am confused once again. I have the following expression "[BurdenCenter]![BurdenCenterNNumber] & Mid([With Law for Access]![Year],3,2)" in an update query with the following criteria "Left([RATES]![Code],4)" in an ACCESS 97 database which workks perfectly. When I converted to 2000, the expression no longer works. I get an error that says " Undefined function 'mid' in expression". Why would this work in 97 and not 2000? I tried to rebuild it from scratch but it still does not work. I get the same error on the criteria as well. Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance for any help some one can give me.

Try checking for missing references. Select any module, then Module, Design, References. Uncheck any missing references.
