    Finding NTBACKUP.EXE (XP SP1)

My new Win XP computer came with 2 Recovery Disks, not with a Windows XP CD. I am looking for the file "NTBACKUP.EXE," which Microsoft identifies in their book "Windows XP Inside/Out" as the backup file to use. It's supposed to be on the Windows XP CD in the folder ValueaddMSFTNTBackup. Does anyone know if it might be included in the copy of the CD on my hard drive, perhaps by a different name, so that I can copy it and install it in my operating system? Is there another source for this backup file?

    Marvin,
When XP is installed, it does not usually install NTbackup by default. If it did install, it would be in your Windows/system32 folder. That's one of the drawbacks to getting a "canned" XP install. If you can't find it by searching the recovery CD's, I can email you the file as an attachment. It is about 1.1MB unzipped And only 495KB in zipped format. <img src=/S/hiding.gif border=0 alt=hiding width=70 height=24>

Just a thought - while you're looking for it on the recovery disks you did get, be sure to search for something like NTBACK*.* because on the commercial version of the XP CD that I have, the file is in compressed form, i.e. NTBACKUP.EX_
