Merge with Excel datasourse (Word 2000 SR1)

I am trying to create mailing labels in Word. My datasources are 3 separate named ranges, each on their own worksheet, all in the SAME Excel workbook.

When I set up the label file in Word, I have designated the data location as '[filename.xls]Worksheetname'!Rangename. This works for the first Worksheet. However when I create a new Word file to merge with the other worksheets, Word does not seem to be finding the 2nd or 3rd named Worksheet and Rangename... my choices for the fields is that of the 1st Worksheet and Range, not the 2nd or 3rd.

I am familiar with merges between Word and Access, and with Word and one Excel spreadsheet, but this has me stumped!! HELP PLEASE!

TIA,
Georgette

I cannot replicate an issue here from your description.
How did you create your second word document - from scratch (specifying the second data range), or from a copy of the first.
Without evidence, I'd suggest that its simply a case of forcing word to start from scratch with the datarange definition for the second range.

I DID start from scratch with a new Word file referencing the 2nd named range on a different worksheet in the same workbook.

Still, when Word offered me the field choices to construct the label, my field choices were from the first named range on the first worksheet, not the 2nd named range on the 2nd worksheet of the same workbook. What am I doing wrong??

I found the solution on the Microsoft Word MVP FAQ Site:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/MailMerge/Cr...ADataSource.htm

By default Word uses the DDE method to connect to Excel. In order to see the named ranges on a variety of sheets, Word must use ODBC.

1. In the Open Data Source dialog box in Word, check the
