    Broken Images List? (IE6sp1)

    Again, trying to figure out if it is just my computer or not!

    When I first discovered this, I thought it was a fluke. But, it now seems to be a 'persistent fluke'. :-(

    The old Web Accessory "Images List" seems to be non-functional on my home box (Win98SE, IE6sp1). The window opens, but it remains un-populated.

    The "Links List" works fine.

    Thanks.

    Re: Broken Images List? (IE6sp1)

    Hmmm... on further investigation, the Images List window is NOT un-populated, it is just not displayed...

    At the bottom is an image of the window -- but here is the content inside it:
    _________________________________

    HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE>Images List</TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <STYLE> BODY,P,TD { font: 8pt Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, Sans-serif; line-height:10pt } </STYLE>
    <SCRIPT language=javascript defer>
    function imageLoaded() {
    var szID = this.event.srcElement.id;
    var iElemNum = szID.substring(szID.indexOf("_")+1,szID.length);
    this.document.all("imgFileSize_" + iElemNum).IMAGEOBJECT = this.event.srcElement;
    this.document.all("imgDimensions_" + iElemNum).IMAGEOBJECT = this.event.srcElement;
    }
    function pageLoaded() {
    var colTemp = this.document.all.tags("TD");
    for (iTDCnt = 0; iTDCnt < colTemp.length; iTDCnt++) {
    if ( (colTemp(iTDCnt).IMAGEOBJECT != null) && (colTemp(iTDCnt).id.indexOf("imgFileSize") == 0) && colTemp(iTDCnt).IMAGEOBJECT.complete ) {
    colTemp(iTDCnt).innerText = colTemp(iTDCnt).IMAGEOBJECT.fileSize;
    ..etc., etc...

    So, it looks like it is supposed to display the Images List , but for some reason it does not. ?????

    OK, even weirder. If I save the page to my desktop and reopen the page there -- voila! It works fine.

    I am begining to wonder if this is not due to a recent IE upgrade that forced your TIF into your Restricted zone -- instead of the previous Internet zone???

    What do you mean by 'forced your TIF into the Restricted Zone'? I don't know what/which area you are referring to...please explain what you mean... <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

    Re: Broken Images List? (IE6sp1)

    OK...maybe confusion due to wording...I have always had a listing of sites in the restricted zone...started when I got IE6.0...some I manually added and others from a listing from grc.com ('nasties.reg')...other than that - nothing 'new' added with SP1 as to 'forced TIF to Restricted Zone'.

    Since I have no idea where "Images Listing' is located at (maybe I don't have that (WinME))...I can't answer to help/add comments to R2... <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15>

    <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15> to butt into post.

    Re: Broken Images List? (IE6sp1)

    Sorry to confuse! I also meant to let you know via the PostBox that they let me change my name -- but I guess you can see that now. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    OK, this is weird. I am now on a different computer -- my work box. I believe it is patched the same as my home box -- BUT... on this one, the TIF is NOT in the Restricted sites zone. Instead it appears to be in the Internet zone.

    I do NOT believe this is done via the Tools | Internet Options | Security tab -- but since I OBVIOUSLY did not realize how it occured on my home computer in the first place... who knows. Somewhere in the back of my brain I remember (or think I remember) MS changing the assignement of the TIF to the Restricted sites zone. But, obviously on this computer it has not occurred.
    __________

    Oh, by the way. I have the solution to the Images List -- and I will post it later. Jefferson should be able to figure this out -- where is he? <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> I am trying to figure out HOW Microsoft screwed this up in the first place... But, it seems to have something to do with a 'mismatch' of the Script in the imglist.htm file and the way the browser interprets that script.

    As to why it works from the Desktop... I don't know yet. :-]

    Re: Broken Images List? (IE6sp1)

    I have no idea what you're talking about -- I still haven't installed IE6! But I guess that doesn't stop me from having some irrelevant input. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    On IE 5.5, the list works whether the site is Trusted or Restricted, or plain old Internet Zone. This makes me think it has less to do with security and more to do with something else...

    Re: Broken Images List? (IE6sp1)

    It seems to have been a combination -- but I don't understand all the details. Regardless, on IE5 OR if the page is viewed from your Desktop in IE6, it works fine.

    But, not so with a web page on the Internet. See my image files above. I found ANOTHER script error in the file -- but this time in regards to pages with background images. Even after fixing the first error, pages with background images can screw up the script...

    One more thing to debug...

    Re: Broken Images List? (IE6sp1)

    Jefferson -- I need your help. You would the ideal person to help with this.

    MS just released a cummulative update to IE. This INCLUDES IE5.5 -- your version, I believe.
    I suspect the problem with the Images List script is related to fix of the "Improper Cross Domain Security Validation with Frames".

    If you check out the new update, IE6sp1 already 'fixed' this -- which MAY explain why users of IE6sp1, like me, find that the Images List does not work, while users of IE5.5, like you, find that it works OK.

    IF you install the new IE security update -- and it BREAKS the functionality of the Images List -- then we have a clear cut 'cause and effect' relationship...

    Thanks.

    Re: Broken Images List? (IE6sp1)

    I installed the cumulative update and rebooted. It took longer to find a page with a background image. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> I did find one, but I did not get any errors. Try http://www.cch-corsearch.com/. I did get an error, I think, at BestBuy.com, which I don't believe has a background image, but it still displayed the image list (perhaps minus one with which it had a problem). Experiment completed.
