Access Splash Screen (Access 2k)

Is there a way to remove the access splash screen that always flashes when I launch one of my Access databases? Along those same lines, is there a way to change the Access Icon, or remove the Access Icon in the Title Bar?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I wonder if you have read it properly yet.

I thought Marc was referring the "Access" splash screen that appears momentarily before the file open dialog box appears.

I've just penned a fine explanation of how to create your own splash screen then actually read your post properly! (it's late here!).

I don't have Access 2K available but in 97...Tools - Options - removing the tick from the 'Start up dialog box' removed the start up splash screen. I can't find the option in Access 2002!

Tools - 'Startup' has many options that run on startup including Application Icon. Click the adjacent browse button (the one with ... on it) to select the required icon file.

If you ever need to create your own splash screen I'm just who you need!!

Hope this helps.

Yes - I noticed that when I posted it - see my (twice) edited reply!

Time to rest, I think!

You can create a bitmap of your own, put it in the folder with your database app and give it the same file name as your database app (i.e., MyDatabase.mdb and MyDatabase.bmp), and it will open instead of the Access splash screen when you launch the app. You can also use the command-line argument /nostartup when starting the database from a shortcut, but that requires the full path and filename for both the Access executable and the database you're opening or it won't work. If you have an icon file you prefer to use, you can set it from Tools-->Startup. Application Icon is one of the settings accessible from that dialog.

the /nostartup "Starts Microsoft Access without displaying the startup dialog box (the second dialog box that you see when you start Microsoft Access)." (from Help)
If the shortcut is to a specific database you don't see this anyway.
I just did a test using a shortcut to a specific db and it made no difference (and yes I did have the full path in for both)
It does not stop the "Access" splash screen.

Thanks for the correction, John. I never use it myself and I got it confused with something else.

Alternatively, you could use Charlotte's earlier suggestion with a slight twist.

Create a bitmap with the same name as the database (MyDatabase.mdb = MyDatabase.bmp), and make the bitmap only 1x1 pixel. (Color is up to you.) That way, it will still show as a built-in splash, but you will probably not notice it (especially if you use a color that's similar to the user's desktop color or background image.

As for custom splash screens, you'll find quite a few good posts here that discuss making your own splash screen from an Access form. I posted an example a while back: <post#=51710>post 51710</post#>

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the assistance. I am going to work on the 1x1 bitmap suggestion.
