Out of Memory error message (Office 2000 SR1)

I just upgraded from Office 97 to Office 2000 SR 1 and get an error message "out of memory" whenever I try to open Word (Excel and Powerpoint open just fine). I went to MS knowledge base, followed the suggestion to delete 3 files and reload. No luck. I loaded SR 3 and still can not get into Word. If I click on a .doc file, Word opens, but I can't then go into another file or open a new one. I am running Win ME on a P-4 Dell Dimension 8100 with 128 MB RAM. Can anyone help?
    Many thanks,
    George

In all likelihood, the error message is not accurate.

Were the files you were told to delete: Mso9intl.dll, Msohelp.exe and Msoffice.exe ?
If not, try re-naming them to something else, then re-installing.

Yes, those were the files, I did delete and reinstall, then deleted and installed the same files from an older Office 2000 (pre-SR-1) in case the files on the CD itself were corrupted but still have the same problem. I am really at a loss.

    Hi George:
It may be your temp files. It shouldn't be the Data key, but you can try the steps before that in <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>.
    Cheers,

Phil, you are a genius. While I always clear temp files with each boot-up, I never thought to replace my normal.dot file. That was it; it obviously became corrupted. Since I tend to keep backups of things like that, I replaced all normal.dot files scattered over the computer with the backup and Word in normal again.
    Many thanks.
