My guess would be the clipboard, but I haven't tested that...it seems harder and harder to find a page with a background graphic these days.

Interesting - although one would expect it to be the clipboard, it doesn't follow the normal rules of being pasted from there - and I haven't come across any 'Paste Backround' option anywhere.
Maybe it will work in FrontPage?

The 'Set as Background' sets it as the Desktop background, but more than that . . .

Particularly if you are using Oldstyle <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> . Switch your skin to some like Grey and you will get the attached.

    Grovelli--
Running IE (MS Press) says you're saving it to the clipboard when you choose Copy Background--i.e. to save background rt. click it>choose Save Background As>in file name box is the document's name>in Save As Type box is document's file fomrat, and you can save it to anywhere you want.

Saving pictures from a Web page (I.E. 6.0)

If you right-click the backdrop of any web page the attached menu appears.
If you select Copy Background, where does the background get copied to?

Verified here. It sends the "Background" image the clipboard. You can then paste it into an image file like Paint.
