    Windows Shutdown

When I use the Windows Start button and choose ShutDown, my computer does a restart. It will not do a shutdown. I believe someone went in and changed something, but can't figure out what they changed. I am using Win 98 SE. It also does a restart when using CTRL+ALT+DLT and pressing shutdown. Any ideas? Thanks

    Linda

    Re: Windows Shutdown

Hi there Linda, when you select START/SHUT DOWN have a look at the screen that launches and make sure the option to "Restart" is not selected instead of "Shut down".

Yes, I'm sure it says shutdown. Also, when you hit Ctrl+Alt+Dlt the option is shutdown - not restart. I really don't know what's up with this. Thanks for looking at it!

    Re: Windows Shutdown

I could be wrong, but Ctrl+Alt+Dlt has always meant reboot the machine to me, even though it says shut down, I click this twice and to reboot, particularly when installing software etc.

When you go START>SHUTDOWN do you wait for the Shut down screen to appear? Its on that screen you have the option selected by defaul to "Standby, shutdown, restart & restart in Dos mode" make sure the option with the dot in it is Shutdown and not restart.
