XP Pro or Home best? (XP Home or Pro)

Hi people, a friend has asked which version of XP is the better one to buy, the new machine will be used mostly at home and not networked. Since I have only had experience with XP Home, I cannot advise if XP Pro offers a better deal? What do you folks think There is no place better to ask such a question, any help greatly appreciated.

Home should be just fine. Take a look at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/whichxp.asp as a starting point to get more information.

Cyberdance, You're welcome. Post back if you have more ???? Remember take everything MS says with a grain of salt as they make more $$$ when you buy Pro.

Joe I'm having a chuckle actually, the site is excellent, but the questions are making me laugh for some reason. (Of course my absurd sense of humor could be it). The last question on the page is "Do you consider yourself a Power User"? Well, do you think getting powerfully cranky with Microsoft counts?

    Ms. Cyberdance--

The best, most detailed comparison I have found--there are a lot of threads on the lounge where we have hyperlinked every possible Microsoft site comparison--is this one by Kaplinb--it taught me a lot I couldn't find anywhere else Post 192802: XP Home vs. Pro by Kaplinb.

Also here are all the links on the Microsoft site comparing them: XP Home vs. Pro: Microsoft Pages This Thread.

Ed. Note--I would have put in into the previous post, but the last month, half the time, you simply cannot get into edit on a post and the only alternative is to make a new post. I put it up in lounge matters with no change.

The progress bar just freezes--CPU hits 100% and it will stay there to eternity.

Then the XP informed me could tell the super busy me what to advise. There is no such thing as too much information, appreciate it and thank you again.

Re: XP Pro or Home best? (XP Home or Pro)

One thing I have learned is that Microsoft has done a pretty good job of putting tutorials on most facets of XP and a lot of Office Component tutorials on their site with links. It seems they are putting a lot more tutorials than they did for earlier operating systems. They also have over 100 webinars on a lot of subjects now archived, and you can search the events portion of their site for a number of powerpoints on XP, Office and other subjects.

Subscribing to their newsletters (all free) will give you a lot of their off the beaten path sites--I think it would be a rare person who had time to cover all this stuff but it's there. It's a good idea to go to their Windows XP Home and Pro sites every once in a while, because the How To's are worth while and they archive a lot of tips.
