    DVD-RW's and Win2K Server

    Hi folks,
Does anyone know if DVD-RW's work on a Win2K server?

I would think that would depend on the drive itself - Windows 2000 can certainly recognize DVD drives, but you need to make sure the drive itself is supported by the manufacturer to operate in that environment. I hope I'm not completely misunderstanding the question!

    Hi,
I was just wanting to make sure, before I recommended a DVD-RW as a viable backup option for a Win2K server system, that it wouldn't be any problem to run the thing, knowing how Win2K still has some compatibility issues. In the meantime, I talked with someone who recommended just putting the DVD-RW on a workstation and backing up the server over the network -- and then there should definitely be no problem.

So no, I don't think you misunderstood the question. :-)

You best be really careful about backuping up over a network. I haven't looked at DVD-RW drives closely yet but would suspect you could have buffer underrun problems over a network.

    Yeah, I hadn't considered that.

Has anyone installed a DVD-RW on a server yet and had any experience with it?
