    Autosum after filtering (1)

Can you program Autosum to run after filtering? My boss wants to run several different filters and have it summed automatically each time.

    Thanks!!

    Try the following.

    1. Apply any filter at all to your data.

    2. Do an AutoSum on your column(s) of choice

You should notice that Excel actually inserted a Subtotal(9,X:Y), which should change each time you adjust the filter so that the current data is summarised.

Or just check out the Subtotal function in the Online Help. It works on visible cells, so that when you filter only the data shown is included. The figure 9 can be changed to allow for COUNT, AVERAGE, MAX etc.

Thank you Andrew. I know he is hoping Excel can be programmed before any filtering is done and have it automatically sum afterwards (without having to click the Sigma). I figured he would have to manually do it.

    Thanks again!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'programmed before', but once you insert a SUBTOTAL, it should need no alteration after a Filter is applied.

See the attached most basic example.
