OL2000: Show names from ... list not alphabetical

Suppose you've added a number of different Contact lists as sub-folders of the main Contacts folder. When you click on your address book, and get a choice of where to select addresses from, the drop-down list is NOT sorted alphabetically. It appears in the order that it was originally entered.

See this example;

The order is,
Contacts
Internal
Apple
Dog
which is the order I created the sub-folders in.

I would like it to be,
Apple
Contacts
Dog
Internal
which would be alphabetically sorted. Where is the setting to tweak this?

are you using internet mode? see help > about if unsure.

if yes, you need to disable the folders as address books and reenable them in the order you want them listed.

for corp mode, tools > services, adjust the order on the address book tab.

Thanks Mary,

I am supporting a remote user who has IMO set up. My PC has C&W. I tested your solution at my house (where I have IMO too) and it worked! Thanks for the tip.

I was unable to get it to behave the same way at work though (the list to adjust the order didn't give the individual sub-folder names as expected). I DIDN'T (yet) try disabling and re-enabling the folders as address books.

My next question is, do you have any pointers on writing a macro to automate this disabling and re-enabling of folders as address books? My remote user will, I'm sure, be adding more sub-folders to his Contacts. When he does, of course, the new ones will appear at the bottom again - not in alphabetical order. Outlook doesn't appear to have a macro recorder, otherwise I might use it. Making these changes manually isn't bad if you only have one or two folders to do, but after five or six it gets tiring very quickly.

no macro recorder in outlook.

i think it's a registry entry, but don't have IMO mode to see for sure or to test code on. i don't know of any macros offhand, you might want to look at http://www.slipstick.com
