Start | Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Power Options | Advanced tab.
Make sure "Shut down" is selected on drop-down list under "When I press the power button on my computer".

    Start | Shut down button.
Make sure "Shut down" is selected on drop-down list under "What do you want the computer to do?".

    Ctrl-Alt-Delete | Sutdown button.
Make sure "Shut down" or "Shut down and power off" radio button is selected.

    Thanks for the input.

I did the first part of your post, however I don't know what you are talking about with " Start | Shutdown button " or "Ctrl-Alt-Delete | Shutdown button" . I tried the Ctrl-Alt-Delete and it brought me to the task manager. Am I not looking in the right place or am I doing something wrong?
