    Mozilla 1.2 (Mozilla 1.2)

    Like Big Al, I am a bit reluctant to post a question about Mozilla. Whatever....here goes! I read an article in PC Mag (John Dvorak) that talked about the benefits of Mozilla and do I decided to try it. I can see right away that it has some really nifty benefits. For me, in particular, I like that it will allow ALL fonts to be enlarged to where I can read them. (I'm a bit nearsighted, to make an understatement). Plus it has lots of nifty little customization tweeks that I like.

    I'm wondering how one might transfer one's Favorite lists from IE 6 into Mozilla. So far I've not found a way to accomplish this, short of doing the sites one by one. I must admit that as I look at my (so called) Favorites, there are many that aren't so favorite any more, or outright no longer exist. But it would be handy to just move the favorites over. .

    Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

    I think defrag posted a message on the Internet Explorer board about a "my bookmarks" or "my home page" utility that writes the IE bookmarks to an HTML file. Since Netscape used an HTML file to store its bookmarks, this might actually be a conversion utility in disguise. If not, I bet you could find many on download.com or tucows, etc.

    I'm a 99% Mozilla and 1% IE6 user, but here goes..... In IE6's file menu there is an Import/Export wizard that will let you EXPORT your Favorites to an HTML file. I've done it but not taken the next step. In Mozilla, you should be able to IMPORT that file if you open Manage Bookmarks from the Bookmark button. Mozilla's Help says it will ADD it to your current bookmarks, not replace, so it should be "safe" to try it, whaddya think?

    Nah, it's all in good, clean fun! At least that's what I tell myself. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> The regulars here like to needle me (or anyone) who uses Netscape, and hence Mozilla, although I think it is true that the vast majority of people out in computing land use IE. After all, it comes from the "mother ship!"

    Hi Big Al,
    Here in Northern California the clouds opened up, along with a roof defect . I apologize for not responding to your post. I will try your suggestion; it makes perfect sense. What I found, in the end, was that by making Mozilla the default browser, the Favorites Menu choices from the Start Menu work will with it. Nevertheless, I'll try your suggestion. It makes sense that it should work.

    Thanks a lot..... Happy Holidays!

    Re: Mozilla 1.2 (Mozilla 1.2)

    Another question, Big Al.....
    I read in a magazine somewhere that Mozilla has some default setting that will block, or at least impeed, popup windows.....of the advertising variety. I've been looking in newsgroups, etc., and have not been able to identify how to set this property up. Although I've seen it aluded to in a few places. Have you or anyone else come across this one?

    This would be just one more reason to Mozilla!

    Hi (again) Big Al,
    Your method of exporting Favorites from IE and importing to Mozilla worked very well.

    Thanks, Dude!

    Re: Mozilla 1.2 (Mozilla 1.2)

    OK, got both your posts. You're welcome. Now, about popups. I don't believe in blocking ALL popups because there's a lot of sites that won't render correctly if you do, i.e. Windows Update, places you buy stuff from and so on. But if you're inclined to do it, the attachment will show you where in Edit, Preferences to go. Just un-check the box for "Open Unrequested Windows" and you will block all popups. As an alternative, if you're inclined in this direction as I am, you can block selected sites from loading popups by modifying your PREFS.JS and adding a few lines. Learn more about it at this site, among others.

    If you want to take my route, here's the three lines you need to add to your PREFS.JS file. You can add more sites to the third line, each one separated only by a space.

    user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "strict");
    user_pref("capability.policy.strict.Window.open", "noAccess");
    user_pref("capability.policy.strict.sites", "http://www.usatoday.com http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com");

    Don't be a stranger, OK?

    Re: Mozilla 1.2 (Mozilla 1.2)

    Hey, Big Al, you're a fountain of information! Thank you very much for your help. I'll check the more customized approach for blocking some popups. In IE I had a utility called "StopZilla" that worked quite well. It sounds like Mozilla is more customizable on this issue.

    Now that I'm getting a bit of a handle on our roof leaks, I can spend a bit more time responding.

    Thanks again, Al.

    There was another site I was gonna give you about customizing and I forgot to paste in the link. That last one was a third-party site and this is one of many links on the Mozilla site: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/c...nfigPolicy.html
