    Word 97 (W95 SR2)

I'm still using office 97. When I go into Word and click on tools/options - the dialogue box comes up - but many of the "options" are illegible or not present. By this I mean that it looks like someone hads messed about with the graphics. It's probably a corrupt file somewhere.

Any suggestions how I can fix this?

    Many thanks.

If it's just texts that are illegible, it might be a glitch in your graphics card, but if options are missing, it's probably a corrupt Data key in the registry. I have had this problem in Word 97 several times, and deleting the Data key has always solved it.

Take a look at Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word, 197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word<!/post>, in particular the fourth step: Delete the Data Key.

    Hans,

Many thanks for your speedy reply. I suspect that this will work. I had to do something similar this about 6 years ago on Win 95 - only it took me about a week (no exaggeration) to find the solution in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I'll give it a try when I get home.

    thanks again.
