    Design View (Office 97 SR2)

    Hi

I have spent 3 years keeping a duplicate database in Access Waiting for my old novel server to fall over and the time has come.

I will have 15 clients who will be accessing the database. What I would like to do is disable the design view, as I have a couple of meddlers.

Any help or other suggestions would be appreciated.

You can create an .MDE database from your .MDB database (Tools/Database Utilities/ Make MDE File...). In an .MDE database, users can't see or modify the design of forms, reports and modules. You *must* keep the original .MDB; if you ever want to change the design, you must do it in the .MDB, then create a new .MDE from it and transfer the data to the new .MDE.

For a more flexible but more complicated solution, look into user-level security. You can have ordinary user who have no design rights, and developer users who can modify the design of database objects. You can download an excellent overview by Microsoft from ACC: Microsoft Access Security FAQ Available in Download Center.
