    Tools Options (Word 2000 9.0.3821 SR-1)

Each time I set this as I wish, next time I reopen Word, it's back where it was before I reset it. So, I like to see the last 9 files I opened, it "defaults" to 6 and I can only reset it for the session in Word I am currently in.

    Any suggestions why, please?

    Regards
    Will

I believe this setting is stored in the Registry, and possibly as part of the infamous Data key rather than as an individual setting. That said, your data key might not be corrupted; there could instead be an entry under Policies dictating that you have 6 rather than 9 "most recently used" files on your list. Policies usually exist only in a networked setting for users with the NT, 2000 or XP flavors of Windows. What is your environment? Have you noticed any other misbehavior by Word?
