Re: outlook personal files backup program (Outlook 2002)

Back up option doesn't appear under the Outlook file menu. Doesn't appear on the add-in list. Doesn't appear in the add/delete programs under control panel. I'm actually trying to reinstall it but the install program detects a previous version and won't let me go forward until I delete it. What I need to know is what files the install program placed on my drive so I can delete them. Any thoughts?

Did you delete the file "extend.dat" as Mary suggested? In my Win2000/Office2000 installation it's located at:

    c:documents and settingsusernamelocal settingsapplication datamicrosoftoutlook
-John ... I float in liquid gardens
    UTC -7ąDS

OK, my error, it's a COM add-in, so see if you can remove it from Tools, Options, Advanced, Advanced Options, Com Add-Ins, Remove. If that doesn't work you could try finding and manually deleting the file outbak.dll, which when I installed it in my O2k/W2k install is located in:

    crogram filesmicrosoft officeofficeaddins
-John ... I float in liquid gardens
    UTC -7ąDS

John - Thanks for your help. I deleted the file, but the program still thinks the backup program is installed. Therre must be some other file or files that it's seeing. I guess I can live without the program.

if the program files are deleted and it's not checked in the two addin folders, then deleting extend.dat is all there is left to do - all the information for loading addins is stored in extend.dat.

Actually, that's not quite true. After a lot of searching around in the registry, I found references to addins and found the reference to outlook personal folders backup and deleted it. Then I was able to reinstall it.
