Critical Update?

Anybody know what is the problem with 810030: Microsoft VM Security Update
It failed to install yesterday and I cancelled tonight because it was downloading so slowly.
Also, I could not access the "read more" portion.

Re: Critical Update?

I don't know what's wrong, but I've experienced the same problem on multiple machines, all 2000 and XP systems. Precisely the same symptoms, I might add - the best thing to do is probably to wait a few days and try again. We may never know what the reason is (in fact, I'd bet on that).

I'm with Mark. MS Update sites have been acting really wild lately and you never know if it's load or something they're doing. All the machines I've been updating lately have been XP Pro and on most occasions I've either had to do one or two updates at a time or wait until a later time (or early AM) and then they seemed to work OK.

Hi Mark and Al, a friend of mine had the same problem with her ME notebook, (i know how much you boys hate ME), after several unusual things happening I suggested she log onto the Critical Updates site and make sure she had everything installed, she tried for a couple of days without success. Convinced it was something she was doing, I had a look myself, but the connection was not working at all. No problems getting online, just when the site gets to the point of saying "take a few minutes, please wait" it stops there. Sounds like it is not confined to the O/S.

Ooh, I hope your WinME friend wasn't trying via dialup! I can't imagine how flaky the MS Update sites would by THAT way. I hope it's broadband......

Also sounds like she may have a "Pop up" and/or "Script" blocker running. Both of these can blck the access to the Update files.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Critical Update?

Thanks Dave and Al, I will tell her to try again now the weekend is over, maybe the site will not be so busy. I don't think it is anything to do with the machine's settings, as she has loaded Critical Updates via DUN before without trouble, but I will check that nothing is blocking.

Al, Believe it or not, the dial up connection to the MCU site is pretty good.
